The Renaissance  (1400’s-1600’s)

The East Asians continued to refine their garden design in line with the Taoist, Confucius and Buddhist teachings.   While maintaining the principle of idealized nature, we started to see the use of clipped trees in the Japanese garden.

In the mid 1500’s, the Italian Renaissance garden brought back the sculpture and geometry of the Romans (who borrowed it from the Greeks, Egyptians, and Persians).
